These 2 rooms of jade & bronze in the Freer Gallery of the Smithsonian in Washington, D.C., were not here in 2009. They have such a large collection that they rotate it. The photos I took then are posted in a separate album labelled Chinese & Asian Art. It can be located on the website under July 2009. These artifacts were mostly acquired from China during the Warlord Era (c. 1920s), and the bronzes were cleaned. We don’t do that today with ancient bronze, but it does give a better idea of what they looked like when they were new. Photos by Gary L. Vicksburg Battlefield & USS Cairo Museum
The siege of Vicksburg by Union General Grant and its surrender in 1863 was a turning point in the War Between the States. The battlefield photos follow the auto tour shown in the brochure photos at the front of this album. The USS Cairo was sunk in the Mississippi River, raised 102 years later, restored, and placed on display on the battlefield. Photos by Gary L. Getty Villa Museum: Roman, Greek, & Etruscan Antiquities
Oil baron J. Paul Getty built this villa near Los Angeles based on a Roman villa buried in the 79 AD eruption of Mt. Vesuvius. It houses his personal collection of antiquities collected from ancient Etruria, Greece, and Rome. Most pictures of artifacts are preceded by a museum label describing the artifact in greater detail. Bulk Freighters & Ships of the Great Lakes
From 1975 to 1979 I lived in Duluth, Minnesota, overlooking the entrance to the Duluth Ship Canal. It was easy to photograph the ships entering the harbor. The Duluth photos were all taken from 1976 to 1979. The earliest photos were taken with a half-frame camera. The prints were not very good quality, so the digital copies are also not so good. I have added a few river barges, as well as English Channel and Rhine River shipping. Photos by Gary L. Todd, Ph.D., Professor of History, Sias International University, Xinzheng, Henan, China.

Railway Museums
I’m somewhat of a closet railfan who grew up along the Illinois Central RR and rode the ICRR to and from the University of Illinois in the late 60s. These are copies of photos I took at several RR museums in the U.S. & Britain, mostly in the 1980s & early 90s, except for the one in England, which I took in 2003. Photos by Gary L. Todd, Ph.D., Professor of History, Sias International University, Xinzheng, Henan, China. http://picasaweb.google.com/GaryLeeTodd/RailwayMuseums#
Illinois Central RR: IC, ICG, GMO
In the 1980s and early 90s I lived in Illinois, where there are many railroads. In my spare time I photographed quite a few of them. I am adding all my photos to my website in 5 different albums. This one is for my favorite, the Illinois Central RR, along with the Gulf, Mobile, & Ohio, and the post-merger Illinois Central Gulf. I took most of these photos in the late 1980s along the ICG mainline between the Champaign ICG Yard and Tolono, unless otherwise noted. Photos by Gary L. Todd, Ph.D., Professor of History, Sias International University, Xinzheng, Henan, China. https://picasaweb.google.com/GaryLeeTodd/IllinoisCentralRRICICGGMO
